Kisan Mela on Nagauri Paan Methi (Kasuri Methi)

Efforts to give special recognition to Nagauri Pan Methi (kasuri methi). Kisan mela on Nagauri Pan Methi was organized on 12th October 2021 at Seth Kishanlal Kankariya State Higher Secondary School Nagaur, Rajasthan. The Kisan Mela was organized by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, DBT Biotech Kisan Hub, South Asia Biotechnology Centre, National Research Centre on Seed Spice Ajmer, Spice Board of India, Department of Agriculture, and Ambuja Cement Foundation. The main objectives of Kisan Mela were to enlist Nagauri Pan Methi in the Scheduled Spices List of the Spices Board of the Government of India, to gather farmers testimonials for preparation of application for Geographical Indication (GI) of Nagauri Paan Methi, and also to connect farmers with processors and exporters.

Farmers-Scientists Connect Meet Cumin Production and Value Chain System

Cumin farmers from various districts of Rajasthan participated in DBT’s Farmers-Scientists Connect Meet. Ajmer, Rajasthan on 29th Oct 2021 as part of Farmers-Scientists Connect Meet by Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Govt of India. On the occasion, Biotech Kisan Hub for Western Dry Region, the National Research Centre on Seed Spices, Ajmer (ICAR-NRCSSS) & South Asia Biotechnology Centre, Jodhpur (SABC) in collaboration with the Spices Board of India and Department of Agriculture Rajasthan organized Cumin Production and Value Chain System on 28th October 2021 at Auditorium, NRCSS, Ajmer.

Farmer Scientific Dialogue Program on Scientific Production Technology of Cumin

“Farmer Scientific Dialogue Program on Scientific Production Technology of Cumin” was organized by KVK, Danta; DBT Biotech Kisan Hub; South Asia Biotechnology Centre, Jodhpur; ICAR-National Research Centre on Seed Spices, Ajmer; Department of Agriculture, Government of Rajasthan and Spices Board India Government of India on 13th Nov 2021 at KVK, Danta, Barmer. Hundreds of farmers, mahila kisan and progressive farmers participated in the scientists-farmers interaction program from the cumin production growing areas of Barmer.

MP Agriculture Minister Visit to Biotech Kisan Hub Laboratory Facility

Shri Kamal Ji Patel, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare of Madhya Pradesh visited the Biotech Farmers Hub Biotech Kisan facility and R&D laboratory of South Asia Biotechnology Center Jodhpur on 14th February 2022. SABC scientists briefed him about R&D activities being carried and shared experiences about scientific field demonstrations on seed spices. 6th Annual Spice Meet of Federation of Indian Spices Stakeholders (FISS)”

Karthik, FISS trustees, and office bearers, members of FISS and around 600 colleagues from spices fraternity, trader, processers, agribusinesses & exporters, farming and scientific community, Dr. Shrishail K Kulloli of Spices Board regional office Jodhpur and media including Sh. Mrityunjay Jha, Zee Business; Ms. Manisha Gupta, CNBC Awaaz; Mr. Vishwa Mohan Kumar of the Times of India.

Farmers Fair /Kisan Mela on Seed Spices

ICAR-National Research Centre on Seed Spices, Indian Society of Seed Spices and Biotech Kisan Hub for Western Dry Region, supported by Department of Biotechnology organized a mega Seed Spice Farmers Fair-2022 at ICAR-NRCSS Tabiji, Ajmer on 11 March 2022. Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Sh Kailash Choudhary inaugurated the mela as Chief Guest and Sh Bhagirath Choudhary, MP Ajmer as a special guest along with MLAs, elected representatives, directors of ICAR institutions, VC of SAUs, officials from State and Govt of India and around 1200 smallholder seed spices farmers, Mahila Kisan, and media.

Promoting GAP & IPM based cumin production system

Strictly complying with the Covid_19 norms, around 40 farmers representing different villages from Nagaur and Ajmer districts attended the program jointly organized by Biotech Kisan Hub, National Research Centre on Seed Spices (NRCSS), South Asia Biotechnology Centre and Department of Biotechnology, Government of India at NRCSS, Ajmer on 4th November 2020. While strictly following “no mask, no entry” & physical distancing norms, farmers and scientists interacted on various issues affecting cumin production, processing and export from Rajasthan. Due to Covid_19 pandemic, the organizers distributed masks and interacted with farmers on Covid_19 measures.

Nagauri Paan Methi: Origin, domestication, crop improvement & production system

The Department of Biotechnology’s DBT-SABC Biotech Kisan Hub for Western Dry Region, the Spices Board of India, ICAR-National Research Centre on Seed Spices (NRCSS), and the Department of Agriculture, Nagaur district of Rajasthan have organized a brainstorming meeting “Nagauri Paan Methi: Origin, domestication, crop improvement & production system” on Thursday, 03rd December 2020 at the Department of Agriculture office, Nagaur, Rajasthan. The purpose of the meeting was to interact with officials of the Nagaur agriculture department, KVK-ATMA, College of Agriculture Nagaur, ICAR-NRCSS, and SABC to gather the requisite information, data sets on the origin and spread, and testimonials of farmers growing Nagauri paan methi.

Farmers-Industry Engagement & Buy-Back Arrangement Data & Venue: DBT PSMC Visit to Biotech Kisan Hub For Western Dry Region on 11-14 March 2021

The Project Steering and Monitoring Committee (PSMC) led by Dr HS Gupta, Dr. Md Aslam and Dr. B Venkateswarlu of the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India visited Biotech Kisan Hub for Western Dry Region for review and monitoring of DBT-SABC Biotech Kisan hub and field demonstrations from 11 to 14 March 2021. The team visited field office, tinkering biotech laboratory and demonstration fields along with a team of experts from South Asia Biotechnology Centre, the Spices Board of India and industry representatives. The team noted excellent work being carried out by Biotech Kisan Hub in Western Dry Region, carefully monitored the field performance and closely observed value chain partnership developed to strengthen backward integration with industry.
